Geriatric Psychiatry Neuroimaging (GPN) is interested in the mental heath of the fastest growing population of our communities, the elderly and aging. We are interested in understanding the changes related to the normal aging of the brain, as well as in the treatment and prevention of brain diseases.

We are a diverse group of medical and research professionals, engineers, research staff, and students from the University of Pittsburgh and UPMC. We use magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) to better understand brain changes that occur in older adults.

A central theme of our research is investigating the common underlying causes of geriatric syndromes, including late-life depression, anxiety, mobility, and cognition.

By working with us, you can contribute to new solutions for some of the most common and serious bumps in the road that older adults face. You can also help us learn what keeps some older adults happy and healthy as they age, so we can pass that knowledge on to others.

GPN is dedicated to giving much needed access to these services in Pittsburgh’s older adult community. By joining us on the journey, you may have access to:

— Licensed doctors who focus on the care of older adults

— State-of-the-art treatment options and medicine approved by the FDA

— Weekly visits to help you keep track of your health

— Compensation for your time

Some studies may even offer to assist you with travel when you visit us. Feel free to contact us if you would like to participate! We want to learn what it takes to help maintain mental good health as you age, and we can’t do it without you!
